Picture this:

You've had a long night

With zero sleep.

Because working, because looking after your baby, because your mind didn't stop wondering. And the next morning, that moment, the one thing you needed... a nice and hot cup of coffee, got interrupted.

Cold on the bench. Or reheated. Or not at all.

That was me

Sleep deprived, with a baby and a toddler. The coffee was always last.

Too hot to hold near the kids. No room in hands already full of bags, keys, small people who needed carrying. Left behind while everything else came first.

It sounds like it's about the coffee.
It wasn't.

It was about the feeling of always putting everything else first.

Of being last on my own list. Of treating a five-minute moment for myself as something that could wait, and then watching it go cold, literally, as proof.

Somewhere in between, I'd stopped showing up for myself. Even in the smallest ways. I wanted to reclaim that moment. Without guilt. With presence.

The idea

So I decided to protect at least this. That one moment that was mine.

The idea of making a cup that could keep up with a busy life, without having to worry about spills, about getting cold, but instead, one that looks after my drink, so I can look after myself.

So I built it

So why not make it for others too?

Quality materials. Leak-proof. Easy to open with one hand. Good temperature retention. Materials I can trust.

But more than that, a reminder that it's ok to stop, to keep moving, to keep showing up for yourself.

KALU is for that moment that's just yours.

And for every ordinary morning after that.

What matters

Our future intentions

KALU started with one frustrated mum and one cold cup of coffee. But it's becoming something bigger than that.

We believe that women who give everything deserve something that gives back, even something as small as a hot drink that's waiting for them when they're ready for it.

As KALU grows, a portion of every cup sold will go toward mental health support in New Zealand. Because the conversation we're starting, about self-care that's real, not performative; about prioritising yourself without apology, matters beyond the product.

This is just the beginning.
